Historical Setting: 18th Century Scotland

"Blood built it; blood stopped the building of it; blood shall bring it down!" That was the answer David Balfour got when he inquired about the House of the Shaws. David, sixteen-year-old son of a country dominie, had travelled many miles with a letter from his dead father to his uncle, Ebenezer Shaw. His reception at the great half-finished house was one of the weirdest and most bloodcurdling ever given to anyone.

Failing in a fiendish attempt on David's life, his villainous uncle had him kidnapped and put aboard the brig Covenant to be sold into slavery. On shipboard David fell in with Alan Breck, the daredevil Jacobite, and later, when the brig was wrecked, escaped with Alan and cast his lot with the Stewart cause. After many hazards during which the two were pursued by both law and outlaw, David finally outwitted his rascally uncle and came into his own.

One of the great adventure stories of all time, Kidnapped is now presented in the Illustrated Junior Library with beautiful Lynd Ward illustrations in full color and black and white executed exclusively for this edition.
