Epic Snow

December 14, 2008 - December 23, 2008

Coming Down
Eli mentioned that he had never had a surprise party before so as his birthday on December 15 approached, I called some friends, baked some cinnamon rolls, and managed to hide two big dishes of his favorite casserole. Sunday morning, the day of the party, this is the sight that greeted us.
Drifts
The snow was amazing! All of Portland was astounded—especially when it didn't melt but rather kept falling for a week and a half!
Sledding
We went out soon after breakfast (we had plenty of cinnamon rolls!) since church was canceled.
Joshua
Joshua enjoyed our walk around Oregon City, but Lucy didn't like snow blowing in her face.
Oregon City
Everything looked different!
Trees
We enjoyed the soft white beauty that first day.
Snowman
The snow was really too powdery to make much of a snowman.
Defrosting
Lucy was happy to come inside to warm up!
Bundled Up
There was still plenty of snow a few days later so we went out again. After all, snow doesn't last long—usually.

Home
Thankfully home was warm and cozy.
Ice
Being Portland, we also got some ice layered in with our snow.
Warming Up
On the day before Christmas Eve we went for another walk and ended up at the coffee shop down the road. There was still snow on the roads, but after being cooped up at home for more than a week and missing two weeks of church, I was not going to let that keep us from celebrating Christmas with the family. We packed up clothes, blankets, and gifts and spent that night with the Evans and Christmas Eve with my family.
Wreath
It was a pretty white Christmas that year!
