The Student Writing Intensive is an expanded set of demonstration classes meant to supplement the Institute for Excellence in Writing's teacher training courses, or to provide lessons in the basics of structure and style directly to students. When given live the classes are completed in one week, but on video they can be more effectively implemented over a longer period of time.
The course is available at three different levels, although each set presumes no previous experience and begins with the basic ideas. Group should be chosen by age and maturity rather than actual writing experience.
Ideally, these lessons should be used in tandem with the TWSS syllabus. The parent or teacher would present and complete one class, and then do a few additional assignments—of their own design—before proceeding to the next lesson. In this way, the structure and style concepts are reviewed and strengthened, thus creating more solid, permanent skills.
