Based on the complete 9-volume Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this one-year unit study introduces 3rd-6th graders to the real-life background of the books. Not just a history book, however, this course is intended to improve students' writing skills, teach them to apply Scripture in meaningful and creative ways to their own lives, understand health and nutrition, and increase reading comprehension. They don't simply read about each of these—they write essays, churn butter, learn to sew and cook, sing period songs, and more as they actually experience aspects of pioneer life themselves.
