Nichols earned his Ph.D. from Westminster Theological Seminary and currently is a professor in the Division of Biblical Education at Lancaster Bible College and Graduate School. In his teaching, he works to make history fun by bringing out an individual's characteristics to show the whole person rather than just flat, lifeless statistics. In his writing, Nichols employs the same techniques. He thereby makes events and people come alive to the reader, illustrating how important the past is because it shapes the present and ultimately the future. A few of his books include Jonathan Edwards, Pages from Church History, and The Reformation. Nichols and his wife, a literature professor, raise their family in Pennsylvania.
